Oreo Dory

Whole smooth Dory

Popular, white, skinless, firm fillets that are moist and have good flavour. Smooth Oreo Dory fillets hold together well during cooking and serving. A versatile fish for portion-controlled menus where a whole fillet can be served. Ideal for restaurants, function caterers and retail fish bars.

Description

Sealord smooth Oreo Dory is closely related to the zeidae or true dory family. It is also known as deep sea dory, smooth oreo, or small-spined oreo. Sealord smooth Oreo Dory is caught around the south of New Zealand at depths of between 700 and 1,100 m (2,300 to 3,600 feet). They average 35-45cm (14-18 inches) in length and about 1.2 kg (2.6lb) in weight. Smooth Oreo Dory is caught by deep water trawling throughout the year.

Sustainability

All New Zealand fish are sustainable as our fisheries are strictly controlled by the Quota Management System. This system is recognised as one of the most effective in the world.
