Fish Species

NZ Fish Numbers:

Fish aren't the easiest thing to count but each year Sealord works with other companies, scientific researchers and government to assess the fish stocks in New Zealand's EEZ.

• The adult Hoki population is around 800 million fish. Each year the commercial fishing industry catches around 10% of these.
• The adult Orange Roughy population  is around 133 million fish. Each year the commercial fishing industry catches around 4% of these.
• The adult Oreo population  is around 180 million fish. Each year the commercial fishing industry catches around 7% of these.
• The adult Squid population is around 800 million. Each year the commercial fishing industry catches around 30% of these.
