Squid

Nototodarus spp.

Sealord arrow squid is also known as short-finned squid or calamari. The white, bronze or copper coloured squid is caught by trawling between 50 and 300 metres (160 and 1,000 feet) in sub-Antarctic waters.

Dressed New Zealand arrow squid has a clean, white firm flesh. It can be further processed into tubes, rings or strips. It is suitable for all cooking styles and has a delicate shellfish flavour.

Our Squid catch numbers are determined by New Zealand’s Quota Management System, so that fisheries remain sustainable. New Zealand’s commercial fishing industry catches around 30% of the approx. 800 million Squid within our EEZ.
