Tipene boasts whakapapa to Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa, Waikato, and Te Whānau a Apanui.

His professional background is in accounting, management consulting, and corporate finance.

He is particularly invested in catalysing the growth of the iwi economy.

As an Associate Director, Tipene hopes to learn best practice governance at a corporate scale, and to gain expertise in the fisheries and aquaculture industry.
